Trillium

Know why it grows so early in the spring?  No, I'll tell you.  Because it is so low to the ground, it gets heat from the rotting dirt below.  Taller plant, i.e. trees, are still exposed to late night frost.  That means they cannot bud and leaf as soon.  This gives the low growing trillium a short window to grow, bud, bloom, and seed.  Wow.
