Vernon Marsh

_6069102

From the parking lot, we could see well maintained trails were of the utmost importance.

_6069141

Water lilies abounded, blue and beautiful.

 _6069154

The grass was tall, and sadly the Sandpiper Cranes were not to be found.

 _6069171

Eventually it got to deep.  Fortunately, Kat was to be found.

 _6069123

Hey little guy!

_6069133

Good to see the dragonflies out and about.  Still no butterflies, but I’ll take what I can get.

We Have Botanical Gardens!!

My god.  Why hadn’t anyone told me.  Anyway, here are 25 awesome flowers, one weird sculpture, and a little mystery; who’s taller, Kat or ferns?

Nephew

His eyes could swallow you whole.  Look at them.  No, don’t.  You’ll be sucked in.  Maybe glance.  Yeah, glance at them.

Afternoon Bike Ride

_5298803

22 miles and four pictures.  Well, there were more, but these are the keepers.

 _5298844

At the halfway point we walked the seven bridges in Grant Park.

_5298863

The flox was in bloom.  A very nice little weed.

 _5298874

My god, would you people stop feeding the geese.  To be honest, I’ve sort of backed off of this stance.  I mean, if they were in the wilderness, then maybe leave them alone.  But, at this point they are half domestic garbage eaters anyway.  Perhaps we could compromise and have you try and feed the birds something healthy.  I don’t suppose Wonderbread like foods are very good for them.

Happy

_5288769

I think they should change every sign to read the same.  Who knew you could be so insanely happy picking up dog shit.

 _5288773-2

Bird’s are happy on their perches.

_5288774

We are all happy this concrete facade hasn’t fallen off onto Lincoln Memorial Drive.

 _5288777

And I’m happy that they have left some of the classic brick wall ads on Milwaukee’s buildings.

Back to the City

_5258751

Bikes.  How wonderfully simple.

 _5278759

Condos built by Chicago Developers.  How painfully complicated.  Seriously, who was going to buy all these half a million dollar condos?

 _5278761

When I lock my bike up, I assume the lock will hold it up.  This fellow decided that a little redundancy would be necessary.

Lady Slippers

_5238702

Rather fantastic little guys.

 _5238714

I tried to get many angles of these showy ones.  Just want to share a couple.

 _5238718-2

Aren’t they fun.

_5238719

Nature walks at the Cedarburg Bog are well advised.  Don’t forget to schedule ahead, it isn’t open to the public.

 _5238737

The walk leader’s favorite flower.  Blasted flower is about the size of a pencil eraser.  I don’t remember what the name is, but I remember why she had it as a favorite.  Her comment was, how bizarre and amazing this plant develops such a uniquely structured flower likely intended to be pollinated by a single type of bug.  How strange and wonderful.
